BIO

Maria Chantzaridou’s artistic practice examines the intersections of daily life, personal experience, and contemporary visual culture, with a particular focus on the dynamics of the food service industry. While her professional role does not define her artistic identity, it serves as a conceptual framework that informs both the thematic and aesthetic dimensions of her work.

Her paintings employ humor and self-irony as critical tools, favoring a nuanced and accessible approach over overt satire. Through the abstraction of realistic human figures into symbolic, exaggerated forms, she constructs a distinct visual language characterized by bold color palettes, playful distortions, and references to early 3D video game aesthetics. By integrating these elements, Chantzaridou mitigates the weight of social critique, fostering an engaging and open-ended dialogue between the artwork and the viewer.

Text and written language play an essential role in her practice, functioning as both a compositional element and an alternative form of expression. Drawing influence from graphic design, she incorporates text as a visual and conceptual device, reinforcing the narrative structure of her work. Her primary medium, spray paint, reflects her engagement with urban aesthetics and the immediacy of street art. Committed to expanding the accessibility of contemporary art, she challenges conventional institutional boundaries, seeking to engage a wider audience beyond established artistic circles.
